The biggest dream for all amateur poker players is to reach the top and become one of those famous poker players, who has the fame and fortune dreamed by most. There are many poker players who are leaving a huge mark on the world of poker, along with their exploits, showdowns, and their victories. These are some of the big names in poker that you may, or may not, have heard about.

Doyle Brunson

Doyle Brunson was born on August 10, 1933, making him one of the oldest living poker pros; as he has been playing poker for over 50 years. He was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 1989, and has done a lot for this amazing game. Within his accomplishments, he has written 4 amazing books: Super System (1979), Super System 2 (2005), Online Poker (2005), and The Godfather of Poker (2009). He imparts his wisdom and knowledge on all of those younger and aspiring poker players.

Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth, also known as the “Poker Brat”, was born on July 16, 1964, and has been playing poker since 1985, a total of 29 years. He is a Poker Hall of Fame inductee, 2007. He is known as the “Poker Brat” due to his outbursts of emotion, usually anger and frustration at what ever situation made him lose an important hand in poker. He may act like a brat, but he is one of the great poker pros, and you can read of his experiences and wisdom through Play Poker Like the Pros (2003), or any of his other 3 books.

Scotty Nguyen

Scotty Nugyen, a Vietnamese American, was born on October 28, 1962. He has been playing poker since he came to the USA at fourteen, but he became a serious poker player in 1985; giving him 29 years of experience. He was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2013. He recently wrote That’s Poker Baby! in 2012, where he imparts with his knowledge of the game, as well as a lot of great insight into the strategy and skills that are needed to become a poker pro, including failures and victories.

Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu, a Canadian poker pro, was born on July 26, 1974. Daniel started out at an early age, as he dropped out of high school to become a rounder, and he eventually got his chance to make it big when he moved to Las Vegas at age 22. He is one of the newest members of the Poker Hall of Fame, as he was just inducted in 2014. He wrote 3 books in 2008 and 2009, where he goes over wisdom and strategy when it comes to Texas Hold’Em, as that is what he famously plays and wins. He is one of the faces of PokerStars, a huge online poker site.

Antonio Esfandiari

Antonio Esfandiari, a famous yet new face to poker, was born on December 8, 1978. Antonio, who changed his name from Amir, went on to become a magician, as that was what he desired to be ever since he was young. It was later in life where he started to play poker, and got real good at it, winning his first WSOP bracelet in 2004. Ever since then he has authored several poker books, where he mixes in his magicians act with his poker prowess; one is The Magician’s Secrets for Winning Tournaments (2012). He is currently the face of the first US legal online poker site, Ultimate Poker.
